You can file complaint at Human Civil Right in your hometown.
It is very easy. and you can talking with Interpreter agencies you can get them to call them straight out ! … you can also print out http://www.nad.org and file complaint .. No matter what?? Keep print out and getting a paper and pen.. Dont threw away the papers what you were asked them for interpreter.
Show the clinic. but they seem dont familiar about ADA.org. you can bring the NAD.org better than ADA. org.. Try to use and print out to show the clinic.
You can keep vlogger to show the Human Civil Right. I did that happened last June 4th on http://www.seekgeo.com it is working well.
You need to file complaint at Human Civil Right and show them the http://www.nad.org
Tell clinic that you should have tell the doctor at hosptial and tell interpreter to translated to doctor there and why you could not take medicine .. Tell doctor the medicine made them headaches. You did not appear explained to them clearly why you could not .. Ask doctor change the medicine. It is urgent!!!
1) Don’t wait and change medicine and ask doctor to change .. tell them why you cannot stand because of headaches.
2) Tell doctor to find a new doctor .. he will help you out to find right doctor. ( your clinic might not understand what you were tried to communicate with no interpreter)
3) your blood pressure. you need to remind the doctor with inteprereter.
4) Tell your interpreter to talk with director ASL agencies.
If the clinic is under Federal’s budget, they will provide interpreters. They have to follow ADA’s law. If the clinic is not under Federal’s budget, they will not provide interpreters. The interpreter fee is very expensive and many doctors do not have money to pay. You should complain to your health insurance instead of doctor. Insurance is VERY RICH than doctors.
It is shame doctors do not provide interpreter, they need to be educated. Please refer to NAD (National Association of the Deaf) website and print the info.
Write a letter to this clinic and make copy of your letter for your record and send letter to doctor with copy of ADA and doctor and include interpreter agency phone number.
If doctor’s office continues to refuse, then you can file complaint with Dept of Justice. Here is website for you to contact and ask for help. They will need for you to write letter for them to start investigate for you.
HI .. it happens to everyone at doctor s office / you need to contact America disability act in your local area or nearby cities .. they will help you / they will take care of it / but it will take a long process of legal things … ok keep figthing it / dont give it up .. Your vlog was so great example to everyone .. smile Preston
Good job Jack for keeping that piece of paper for a record.
I hope you already took it out of your pocket before you put your pants or jacket into the washer! Or it’ll become a tiny little ball….it’s happened to my paycheck once!
What? Federal doctor’s office. Doctor is rich,too.. but that one insurance is billion riches. but Greedy sometime!
But I looked at clinic looking like low income doctor. The reason why it is low income doctor office often dont get provider an interpreter.
Deb M, Good.
I never thought about Dept of Justice and I appeared that I am forgotful about that. you were right!
Most dr’s offices and hospitals already have equipment that can double as communication aids. There seems to be a lot of shortcomings in terms of educating the dr’s and health care agencies of this fact. Whether its a RID directive to suppress such education or not, it’s something that needs attention, and its something that will remedy a lot of the frustrations deafs have with the health care system.
I taught the hospitals to use their equipment as communication aids and nobody’s complaining here in OC.
This is outrage, Dr. must be narrow mind. Must follow ADA laws. Dr. makes more money than interpreter earn just for a couple minutes or an hour. Is he a Jew.
What Anonymous wrote above is true and more Deaf need to be educated about this before they spend money filing law suits.
If any public agency receives more than $2,500 in Federal funds, they are required by the ADA law to provide interpreters to make their services accessible. But if they do not receive Federal funding, they are not bound by the ADA law. That clinic might also be a small non-profit clinic and truly not have the funds to hire interpreters. Many organizations who do not receive Federal money, including doctors, can argue that hiring interpreters causes “undue hardship” on the agencies infrastructure (budget). Many people assume that doctors offices and doctors themselves have lots of money. While it might be true that doctors make a lot of money, we don’t always realize how much it costs them to run their business. The liability and malpractice insurance a doctor must buy for him/herself is outrageous and consumes a great deal of their dollars earned. Yes, there might be ignorance on the part of the hearing medical community about the ADA laws or interpreters, but there is still ignorance in the Deaf community as well about how the ADA law actually works in terms of requiring interpreters. Both sides need to learn more. I encourage you who made this video to continue investigating this issue with this particular clinic and applaud your efforts, but I also encourage you to become more familiar with the parameters of the ADA law (it’s not a perfect law yet) before you spend money in a lawsuit.
Often the Medical office are very often bullying to not getting an interpreter and they are really serious neglect because he have a headaches with wrong medicine. It is too dangerous!!
I hope he could get malpractice from the Spanish medical office.
I think Vlogger is helpful for deaf community to recongized the problem is lack of education.
That’s what I am telling Jack’s friend to print out and show the Medical office their clinic.
Also, I want to be caution Jack and his friend. Dont allow the Insurance to take out of his health insurance. Remind you to not allow your doctor to take out of his health insurance. ADA law they say the doctor must pay their out of pocket.. Not your health insurance.
That’s what the doctor did to me. I am fighting with Insurance Commission. They are now processing trouble sometime soon or so?
Wow. that is terrible doctor.. You should have to sue him and file complaint ..That is ADA .. Go to find another doctor that can provide you an interpreter.. It happened to me that I took medication ( liput.) for my cholorestrol , but it cause high heart rate I called my doctor and mentioned to her about reaction the medication. She told me to stop this taking medication .. Doctor are sometimes greedy and refused to pay an interpreter.. . I am sending my prayers to you and find the right doctor for you .. Dont wait too long ~~ God Bless you 🙂
We have to take into consideration of the interpreter shortages thats exacerbated by the VRS. Furthermore, the VRS industry has done nothing so far to replace the interpreters they have taken from the deaf communities.
To file an ADA suit you have to have at least $3,000 these days as you cant trust the already messed up DOJ’s office. Have you been seeing the news of what’s happening at DOJ? There messed up BIG TIME!
So the healthy solution these days is to educate the health care industry of alternative communication methods, not fight for interpreters. They already have the equipment in their offices, we just need to show them how to use them as communication aids.
I has same your problems before won;t provide interpreter from small clinic and my interpeter agancy faxes to my family dr clinic and my dr said that need large clinic can afford after that when dr and i done with back of paper interpreter and i grab those paper and take paper to ada lawyer will take care of it that i sue those refuse provide interpeter from family dr clinic . so my wife pull me out and move to another family dr accept interpeter butI still take care of case very soon. make clinic learn in lesson from ada laws. one of in florida when i moved in florida i going to find and kick their ass get interpeter if dont go court for ada laws will wake up gosh tell them i keep nag them all the time refuse then take time up. we will win in case for sure what ada lawyer told me cause federal laws beat states laws. also my wife got sued before because wrong medince due asthma cause hard breath and wheeze and often sick that why got ada lawyer talked about heath problems wrong kind of medince and often check on us and not think about our health seem dont care of deaf. beware ; watch out what dr is doing on you if you feel not right make and doctor nod nod to us that we try to tell what plm with me health and take advange of us cause of we are deaf. more inportant get interpeter is best keys take care of your health because sometimes interpeter will be same with you all over again said hi again interpeter good see you again. depend on what buiness of interpeter will send to you.
